Andrew McConnell is the First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Coordinator for the York Region District School Board. A long time resident of Toronto and member of Nipissing First Nation, Andrew started the Native Studies program at Thornlea Secondary School eight years ago and has been an outspoken proponent of integrating Indigenous curriculum throughout secondary school subjects. As the subject head for Technological Studies at Thornlea he taught a variety of subjects from Communications Technology, Technological Design through Native Studies to Writer’s Craft. Before becoming a teacher he worked in the field of journalism at CTV News and before that at Aboriginal Voices, a Native Arts magazine. Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with contemporary issues that involve Métis, First Nation and Inuit people.
