True Or False: Debunking Myths Of Social Media For Pre-Teens
As a middle school teacher in an international Canadian school, the fabric of our student body is unique. Most students in Grades 7 and 8 have the latest smartphone, laptop and other electronics devices from the time they’ve learned to ask their parents for it. So, as it appears on paper, they come across as technology-savvy. However, I’ve learned that just because these students know how to use technology does not necessarily mean they understand all of its implications, especially when it comes to social media. This talk will be about my experiences in guiding students how to be agents in their use of social media, rather than consumers of it. It will focus on misconceptions that adolescents often have about technology and how we as educators can help them in debunking those myths.
